Those of you who have volunteered at Rebuilding Together in the past appreciate the feeling you get when you help someone who cannot afford to maintain their house to stay warm, dry and safe. The genuine appreciation and love from the owners can take many forms but it is always there. Rebuilding Together this year will take place on Saturday, April 27 (like the three spirits of Christmas who visited Scrooge, we do it all in one day). We will need volunteers for the following positions:
Ambassador - helps the homeowner feel at ease while dozens of random strangers make dust and loud noises in their house
Food - we need breakfast and lunch. Anyone with connections at restaurants that can get us discounted or free food is invaluable
Safety - someone experienced with ladders and power tools
Purchasing - we always need things that weren't on the original shopping list, and someone who knows exactly what they are looking for at Home Depot is vital to getting it all done in one day
Cleaning crew - clean up as the mess is happening to prevent it from being tracked around, do final cleanup (yes, Maria, this means you)
We are now evaluating the houses we might work on and we need to know what skills will be available, such as:
drywall (particularly doing it all in one day)
Unskilled workers are also welcome and often beautify the home by landscaping and de-cluttering.
If you are interested in helping out, please let me know as well as any particular skills you might have or any position my might be particularly suited to. Thanks!
